Reusing the Old Sarees
The chic thing of six yards that can steal the show is a perfect blend of comfort and style. From the appealing embroidery to the Geek Goddess look; a saree is a class apart divinity and is considered among the most sensuous attire for women.Just in case your lovely looking, forever-young outfit has worn out and the thought of throwing it away gives you a sinking feeling; we have some really cool ideas on how you can reuse it in a different way:
- How about giving a dramatic effect to your glamorous outfit and using it for home decor?Yes, you read it right! With some cutting and stitching here and there, you can use your favourite outfit for different purposes and it shall be for keeps. Here’s how:
- Cushion covers- Cut the pallu or the lose end of the saree and stitch it into a cushion cover. You can also use the saree border as the piping for the cover.
- Curtains- The thin, cotton, plain old sarees would look great as window or door curtains in summers.
- Table mats- You can use small pieces of the 6 yard long outfit for dressing up your table. Get the piping done and they are good to go!
- Filters- A saree is often used as a water purifier in the suburbs. It is known that using a saree to filter water prevents cholera.
- Wedding- In case you have an upcoming wedding in the family and you need gorgeous stuff for decoration at Mehendi or Haldi ceremony; rely on old sarees. They look way gorgeous than wall arts. Go for a theme and add kalash along with Rajasthani umbrellas.
- Tote or shoe bags made out of old sarees are convenient and spacious enough. They look gorgeous with kurtas and mojris!
- Bedsheets or bedcovers- My mom used her old silk sarees and got bedcovers made. I found it to be really silly and surprising, but honestly, they looked way gorgeous that the usual bed sheets we had and are still my all time favourites.
- Seat covers- kanchipuram silk sarees look very stylish when converted into chair seat covers.
- Scarves- You can make various scarves from the saree and team it with western wear. In case you have enough scarves, distribute them among your friends and wear them together someday. Looks cool!
- Skirt- What an idea! Make a skirt out of the 6 yard drape saree for an elegant yet classy look.
- One last thing, get the saree dyed! What say? Dye the saree into a darker shade. This will give it a new, fresh look and I know you already love me for saying this!
